Sports Medicine/Lameness
If your horse is lame or is not performing at their peak potential in the show pen, we can help. We offer extensive lameness exams and gait analysis tests to help identify underlying causes. Examinations include hoof testing, limb flexion, and evaluation of your horse’s gait in hand or under saddle, depending on the specific concerns.
Diagnostic tools can be used for further evaluation through nerve blocks, digital radiography, and ultrasonography. These tools help to reach a same-day diagnosis and develop a specific treatment plan involving systemic or joint-specific therapies. The treatment plan may also include physiotherapy and recommendations for conjunctive therapies (acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, massage, etc.)
Pre-Purchase Exams
Our pre-purchase exam is designed to reduce the buyer’s risk in relation to the general health and athletic soundness of the horse of interest and to ascertain any pre-existing problems or any potential problems that may affect the future soundness of the horse. The exam is a complete physical evaluation including an ophthalmic, dental, neurologic, and soundness assessment. Soundness is evaluated with the horse in hand and on a lunge line at the walk, trot, and lope. Limb flexion and hoof testing are also performed. The exam is customized for you depending on the horse’s discipline, age, and your budget. We are willing to communicate information to you and your regular veterinarian the same day as the exam. Digital radiographs can be immediately e-mailed to you for review if you are unable to be present for the exam. Blood work (including drug testing), ultrasound, endoscopy, and reproductive examination can also be performed, if requested.
